DStv, GOtv To Screen 2017 All Africa Music Awards Live

Multichoice said pleased to announce that it will be broadcasting the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) live on DStv and GOtv on 10-12 November.

The Awards will be screened live on DStv channel 198 to Premium, Compact, Compact +, Family and Access customers; and also on GOtv Max and GOtv Plus Channel 29.

AFRIMA is one of the biggest music awards in Africa with participation of over 700 artistes across the continent.

The awards, which are in their 4th year, will be held in Nigeria, which has been the host city since 2014 and will be co-hosted by multi-award winning artist and composer, Akon and one of Cameroon’s biggest entertainment personality and host Sophy.

“This is the first time that we have screened these spectacular awards live on our platforms. We hope to be able to keep showcasing these awards in the future, so that we are part of celebrating the amazing musical talent that we have in our continent,” said Martin Mabutho, the general manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria.

Nominees in over 33 regional and continental categories are battling it out for the coveted AFRIMA 23.9 karat gold-plated trophy.

These include the AFRIMA Legend Award and Music/Entertainment Journalist of the Year award. Well-known sensational African music names on the AFRIMA nominees list include: Becca ft Patoranking (Ghana), Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage (Nigeria)in the Best Female in West Africa Category; Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Davido (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC) in the Artiste of the Year Category; Darassa (Tanzania), Ebony (Ghana), The Dogg (Namibia) and Nyashiki (Kenya) in the African Fans Favourite Category. Artists vying for Album of the Year include Angola’s Anselmo Ralph, Dark suburb (Ghana), Wizkid (Nigeria), Hugh Masekela (South Africa) and more.

CNN African Voices Profiles Talents Behind the Camera



African talents, who operate behind the scenes from the camera, are the guests on this week’s edition of Globacom-sponsored African Voices on CNN International. The episode has the theme: “Through the Lens”.

The 30-minute magazine programme will feature great African photographers like Gerald Rambert of Mauritius, Omar Victor Diop of Senegal and Adnen Chaouchi of Tunisia.

Globacom in a press statement in Lagos on Friday urged viewers to watch African Voices on CNN at 7 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 12.30 a.m., 4.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday. Further repeats will also run at 5 a.m. on Monday and at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The company announced that the CNN crew will go underwater with the Mauritian photographer, Rambert, as he introduces viewers to the world of deep sea photography. He will in the course of the interview  disclose how his big passion for the fish and the sea led him to spending hours in the water and finally to underwater photography.  Rambert today is the photographer for many acclaimed magazines.

The second guest is the Senegalese photographer, Omar Diop. He is a graduate of the Paris Business School and has worked in several multinationals before abandoning his corporate job to devote himself to photography. Viewers will find out how he is interchanging between photography and painting.

The final guest on the programme, Adnen Chaouchi, is a journalist and radio host who CNN said is changing the way news is consumed through mobile journalism. He is expected to talk about how he combines his job as a journalist with television production.

In the last edition of African Voices was dedicated to women across Africa who are driving the styles found on runways around the world including Ethiopia’s Anna Getaneh, Nafisa Hafiz of Sudan and Anita Beryl of Uganda.

FBD‎ Holds 2nd Franchise Matchmaking Investment Forum

Franchise Business Development Services (FBDS Nigeria) has said that its second (2nd) Franchise Matchmaking Forum will hold on Thursday 29th March 2018. ‎


Franchise Matchmaking Forum is a member of the International Franchise Association (IFA) and representative of World Franchise Associates (WFA) in Nigeria


The Forum according to the company is a quarterly franchise investor’s forum, where CEOs of franchise brands (Franchisors) pitch their franchise opportunities to an audience of prospective franchise buyers (Prospective Franchisees).


Mr. Chiagozie Nwizu, ‎Convener of the Forum, said that the forum is in line with the programmes in the calendar of the Nigeria 2018 Franchise Agenda, developed after a franchise industry stakeholders round table, which held in November 2017.

Google Reveals Top Trended searches in Nigeria



Statistics released by Google yesterday shows that football search top the stories that trended most in Nigeria for the Last 7 days.


The company said that excited Liverpool fans raced to Google to read more details about the new Premier League record set by the club, following their 2-1 win against Newcastle on Saturday at Anfield.


It would be recalled that Liverpool has scored against Newcastle at Anfield in 22 consecutive meetings, a Premier League milestone in home games against a single club.


Coming in second place was the news of Popular American rapper William Leonard Roberts, commonly referred to, by his stage name Rick Ross, who was reported to have been rushed to the hospital after he was found unresponsive on Thursday at his home in Florida.


Google reports that since the news broke, celebrity friends, fans and well-wisher of the rapper searched Google to get updates about his health.


Football news once again was the third most trended searches, no thanks to Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 win against Crystal Palace on Monday, the club, who were down by 2-0 in the first half, made a remarkable turnaround in injury time.


This made the excited ManU fans raced to Google to search for match fixtures and more updates.


Google said that the arrested a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board official called Philomina Chieshe, who claimed that the N36 million money derived from the sale of JAMB scratch cards was mysteriously swallowed by a snake, but after further interrogation by the EFCC, reportedly retracted her earlier claim and confessed that the money was collected by her superior made interested Nigerians turned to Google to read more about this new development, thereby making ‘JAMB’ a top trending search term.


News about a group of researchers led by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, that they have used new modelling scenarios to showcase several ways to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5°C by 2100, made Global warming one of the most trended searches in Nigeria in the last 7 days as interested Nigerians searched Google to read more about this new research finding.
