Ecobank Mobile App Name Official Bank Service Platform of Okpekpe Road Race



Pamodzi Sports Marketing, organiser of the acclaimed Okpekpe International Road Race, has named Ecobank Mobile App as the official Banking Service platform for the 2018 edition of the race slated for Saturday May 12 in Okpekpe, Edo State.


Mike Itemuagbor, Chief Executive Officer of Pamodzi Sports Marketing and Chief Promoter of the Okpekpe International Road Race said the Ecobank Mobile App is most suited for the Okpekpe 10km Road Race being an app that has been adopted across Africa.



Mr. Itemuagbor observed that the Ecobank App would adequately cater for the over 5000 local and international professional athletes expected at the competition, in addition to the large number of sports enthusiasts and government officials from across the continent.



According to him, “The Okpekpe Road Race is a global competition.



“It is therefore natural we look for a bank with a service platform that has international appeal. This informed our choice of Ecobank Mobile App.



“We have a long partnership with Ecobank based on the bank’s African appeal which best suits our dream to become one of the most sought after long distance races in the world.



“Our athletes come from all over Africa and they have testified that Ecobank products best suit them, enabling them access their funds at any point in time, especially during the competition as they do not need to carry cash or source foreign exchange.

The Ecobank Mobile App which was launched in 2016 currently has over 4 million users registered and has consummated over one billion dollars’ transaction value.



The international 10km road race is organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, a leader in sports marketing, sponsorship, hospitality and Rights Acquisition business in Nigeria in conjunction with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Edo State Government.



The competition has set the pace for other road races in Nigeria and West Africa.


It is the first road race in West Africa to be designated by the IAAF as one of the leading road races around the world since the classification was introduced in 2008.


For three years since 2015, the race was organised under the prestigious IAAF Road Race Bronze Label and now it is the first road race to be granted a silver label status in West Africa.



The 2018 edition of the Race which holds on May 12th is the 6th edition.


It will have over 5,000 runners participating and has also received endorsements from local and international athletes as well as governments.

Amstel Malta Supports Okpekpe International Road Race 2018



All is set for the sixth edition of the Okpekpe Road Race scheduled to hold on Saturday May 12, 2018 in Edo state.


The race will feature about 3,000 runners from Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco, Israel, Bahrain and Nigeria.


Nigeria’s foremost brewer, Nigerian Breweries through its premium malt drink, Amstel Malta, has lent its support to the marathon as a friend of the race.


This was revealed by the Spokesman for the race, Dare Esan, who revealed that this sponsorship will boost the image of the event and the growing popularity of the Okpekpe Race.


The 10km Road Race, that will start on Apana road and end on Okpekpe road, promises a financial reward for the first 8 winners and the first 5 Nigerians to hit the 10km mark.


The Okpekpe International 10km Race is the only race, recognized by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).


Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Edo state governor, has assured that the state is ready to host this edition of the Okpekpe Road Race.


He assured that the world class event would attract visitors from far and wide.


Ngozi Nkwoji, Portfolio Manager, Non Alcoholic Drinks, Nigerian Breweries, expressed great satisfaction with the level of preparedness on the part of the organizers.


She also stated that “Amstel Malta recognizes the capabilities of people and inspires them to always be their best”. 


Amstel Malta is a major player in the sports industry especially with its support for the National Football Teams, including the Super Eagles who will be representing Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup kicking off June 14th, 2018 in Russia.

Heineken Extends Champions League Premium Viewing Experience to Abuja



Heineken has  extended its exclusive premium match viewing experience to Abuja, with the broadcast of this week’s PSG vs Real Madrid, and Liverpool vs Porto games on Tuesday, March 6th 2018, following previous successful screenings of the 2018 UEFA Champions League matches held in Lagos and Port Harcourt,


At the Heineken premium experience venues Tak Klub House, in Abuja, and Ember Creek, Victoria Island, Lagos, supporters and neutral fans of PSG and Real Madrid, engaged in the biggest clash of the night, were on the edge of their seats throughout the 90-plus minutes that the game lasted, as they watched the action-packed contest between Europe’s best teams on a night full of drama.


With a powerful header from a Lucas Vazquez cross, current Ballon D’or Winner, Cristiano Ronaldo was able to score for the ninth straight game in this season’s Champions League.


The Real Madrid star opened scoring in the 51st minute of the round of 16 second leg clash. The Parisians equalized through Edinson Cavani after going one man down, but Madrid’s holding midfielder, Casemiro scored a second goal in the 80th minute.


The game ended 5-2 on aggregate, with the Spanish team proceeding to the Quarter Finals.


Fans at the premium match viewing centres were treated to a supply of cold beer, snacks and leisure games to play, in an atmosphere of fun, celebration and much delight.


Many of the guests were also rewarded with gifts and prizes after participating in football quizzes.


The elegant crowd also engaged in football banter and conversations, whilst cheering on their favourite teams and players who were in action on the night.


UEFA Champions League fans in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt will continue to have the chance to enjoy Heineken match viewing experiences in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja  for the rest of the 2017/2018 Champions League season.

Seven MTN Customers Watch Arsenal & Manchester City Match live in London



As part of its CSR initiative, MTN Nigeria sponsored seven Y’ello family to joined other Arsenal fans at the Emirates Stadium in London to watch the much anticipated Premier league clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.


Ademola Sulaiman, Speaking on the exciting opportunity to watch his favourite team, said “I’ve been on cloud nine since I heard… I’ll be going to London to watch my Arsenal play live! It has always been a dream of mine and it’s even on my bucket list.

These lucky Arsenal fans embarked on an epic 4-day experience, which included a tour of the magnificent Emirates Stadium getting a feel of the perfect and lush green playing surface, visiting the popular Armoury housing the club’s merchandise and many opportunities.

The high point of the tour came on March 1st, when the seven Gunners joined other teeming fans to watch Arsenal and Manchester City lock horns.
