1Child 1Book Promoters Delighted Over British Deputy High Commission Support

(L-r) Ray Kyles, Deputy High Commissioner British High Commission Lagos and Tosin Jegede, programme director, TJF during the programme.

Tosin Jegede Foundation (TJF), the promoters of 1Child 1Book, have expressed delight over a partnership with the British Deputy High Commission, Lagos.

According to Tosin Jegede, the programme director, the partnership is particularly special as they reach a milestone next week, witnessing the graduation of 350 primary school children they have worked with in the last three years.

In an email to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, Jegede said, “We are extremely proud of their achievements so far. This week, the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos donated storybooks to 1Child1Book and hosted public school children we work with, who have little access to books”.

Mr Ray Kyles,  the Dmdeputy High Commissioner, expressed his interest in the work of 1Child1Book and read to the children. ‎

He also spoke about the importance of reading and literacy.

He shared a story about his own sons and how he loves to encourage them to read.

He said children in Nigeria need to have access to books and stressed the importance of literacy for building future skills.

The children at the book presentation represented two public schools we work with – UPE Primary School, Festac, Amuwo Odofin and Hope Children’s School in Ikoyi.

The Staff of the British Deputy High Commission Lagos Nigeria donated 500 books, which will be distributed to children in the 15 schools we have worked with.

The books donated are from Nigerian publishers Kachifo Limited.

1Child 1Book is an educational initiative of Tosin Jegede Foundation with a goal to provide a storybook for every child who can not afford one starting in Lagos State, Nigeria.

“Our key objective is to improve literacy in Nigeria,” Jegede added.
