Motorola has launched its latest enterprise mobility products that will further permeate its business and increase customers’ satisfaction in the Nigerian market.
The enterprise mobility range of products include: Automatic Data Capture Machine, Mobile Computing Device, Radio Frequency Identity and the Enterprise Wide and Local Area Network (WLAN).
The products, according to Mark Kelly who is in charge of Enterprise Mobility Business for Motorola, are primarily to support and manage the supply chain process in any business. The Enterprise Mobility products have the capability to manage inventory from the manufacturing point, to the Point of Sales (PoS).
The products, he said, are targeted at the retail, supply chain, transport and logistics, health care, as well as government. It is also targeted at the manufacturing and distribution companies.
Giving details of the products at the launch, Max Stone, Distribution Partner Manager for Motorola said the Automatic Data Capture machine is a handheld scanner that is capable of scanning data as fast as possible and it is better appreciated in big shopping plaza, where sales are high.
The mobile computing machine, he said, helps to send data electronically. After the data capture machine may have completed the scanning, the results are computed directly into the mobile computing machine and could be sent to the head office or any branch office immediately. It saves cost, time and eliminates the use of paper work. The Mobile Computing machine is like a large mobile phone, but performs more sophisticated functions. It helps to transfer information a lot quicker.
The wireless application provides various kinds of application in real time.
Speaking on the features of the products, Stone said the scanner is highly reliable with extremely low failure rate, and that it is bundled with hands-free stand and USB cable. It has single circuit board and is designed to last.
The Mobile Computing machine, according to him, has multi-mode radio system with voice communication. It comes with wireless LAN, Bluetooth, GPS Receiver, Push-to-talk, Vibration Alert, Digital Camera, among others. It offers a low cost "durable, enterprise ready" alternative to consumer PDA’s such as the HTC/iMate class of products. It is a product that supports scan intensive applications, and does not compete with traditional mobile phones.
The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), he said, uses the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) and improves velocity through the supply chain by reducing "stop and scan" situations. It equally improves visibility and reduces costs and optimizes assets through these efficiencies. He however said Motorola can only market the RFID in Nigeria after it must have received local regulatory approval of its products.
The Wireless Network, he said, uses the wide and local area network (WLAN) portfolio.
According to Mr. Stone, business is all about doing things accurately, in the quickest possible time, and at the end generate revenue. The products, he added, aid job process in the area of repairs, retail, and the supply chain.
The scanners are mostly targeted at the retailers, while the mobile computing machines are targeted at the manufacturing and distribution companies.
The products help in processing job information, remove delays in jobs, maximize revenue and provide accuracy in job processing. They help companies to have better control of their employees and distributors outside the office environment.
"It is all about field service application ands field sales application. It helps the sales manager in the field to compute his data and send electronically to the office as quick as possible. The products are capable of managing field automation, which comprises proof of delivery, field service and field sales," Stone said.
Speaking on cost, Kelly said the products come in various range and that each of them is pocket friendly.
According to Kelly, Motorola is in Nigeria to do business and help customers with its range of products. The launch of the products, he said, is to tell Motorola customers that it has introduced new products into the market that will address customers’ need in the supply chain business.
Paul Mosa, managing director, WesconAfrica, sole distributor of Motorola products in Nigeria , said the coming of the product into the market is timely. "It is coming at a time that Information Technology (IT) is driving businesses fast in Nigeria and that is exactly what the enterprise mobility products seek to address in the Nigerian market," Moser said.
He added that WestconAfrica has been in Nigeria as major distributor for the past 12 years and that it has been exciting distributing Motorola products because they are tailored to meet customer needs and they sell a lot in the Nigerian market.
