Speaking at a recent launch of the software solution in Lagos, managing director of Joclemns Technologies Limited, distributors of the product, Clement Nnedu, described SolidWorks as an extremely powerful, yet easy to use industry standard for 2D and 3D CAD designs used by more than 85% of the world’s top-ranked engineering institutions.

The Joclemns managing director noted that the software has a larger and more active user community worldwide than any other mainstream 3D CAD software with half a million designers and engineers designing products at more than 80, 000 companies in more than 100 countries.

He affirmed that SolidWorks has evolved with more product innovations and enhancements than any other 3D CAD product in the industry. This according to him means that the software has kept abreast of evolving customer needs and enhanced the technology to constantly meet those needs.

Users of SolidWorks software all over the world have described the product as the better preferred 3D design or modeling software product amongst its competitors, which has resulted in companies migrating from their previous product design software to SolidWorks.

Often acclaimed to be easier to learn and use, and with the ability to reduce product design time, usage of SolidWorks results in improved product quality and greatly reduces prototype fabrication cost.

One distinct feature about SolidWorks design software according to Nnedu is that the designer and even his client can both have first hand experience of the ruggedness of the designed product by way of drop-testing the product to feel the impact that drop would have on it.

"Ordinarily, a product dropped from such distance would break up but with SolidWorks software, having passed through drop-test, would still remain intact. This definitely, stands SolidWorks design software out from the rest of the 3D CAD platforms in its category," Nnedu intimated.

He stated further that engineering educators and students understand that to compete effectively, they must migrate from today’s mixed world of 2D drafting tools and ad-hoc 3D modeling to a 3D-centric design process, where the 3D master model is the common basis for all drawings and other downstream functions.

According to him, SolidWorks is the first product of its class to bring the power of solid modeling production into a native Windows environment adding that what SolidWorks has done for the industrial design world is providing the engineering-level design tool which designers can use, as opposed to CAD programmes of the past which have been prohibited for industrial designers either because of cost or complexity or even both.

In Rwanda for example, government’s efforts at using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in driving the country’s economy got a boost with the partnership it entered with SolidWorks Corporation. SolidWorks is helping in the conversion of 2D files to 3D solid models as well as providing software and business expertise to launch and grow a start-up company in the country.

SolidWorks’ involvement in the country is the latest in the series of efforts aimed at helping rebuild Rwanda’s infrastructure destroyed by the civil war that ravaged the country some years ago. SolidWorks Corporation has donated software and staff time to train teachers on how to use SolidWorks to promote STEM education with the goal of increasing the country’s engineering population.

Nnedu believes that the introduction of SolidWorks software into Nigeria’s economic developmental plan would transform the country into a technology wonder and make the youth more productive.

"It is the country’s most desired solution to providing innovative resource for learning and teaching across a broad range of engineering, design, and physical sciences subjects," he concluded.
