More Grease to Main One Cable Company

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been mainstreamed into many development initiatives over the last decade.
Unfortunately, Nigeria is at the outskirts of the several initiatives geared at accelerating development using ICT as a plank.
One of the factors responsible for the seemingly refractory approach to ICT development in Nigeria is cost of bandwidth.
As a matter of fact, the general high cost of doing business in Nigeria can also be blamed for exuberant internet fees.
But the internet landscape is about to change, thanks to Main One Cable Company which has begun work on erecting an undersea fibre optic cable from Portugal to Africa.
The first and second phases of this project spans 12,900 Kilometres and will boost Internet access across the African continent,
It will also help to considerably minimize the difficulties of switching traffic between African countries and eliminate the inconveniences and added costs of first routing traffic to Europe.
The icing on the project was the granting last week of the pioneer landing licenses to Main One Cable Company. It is a major boost in efforts to digitally connect Africa with the rest of the world.
It is the first time ever that a private sector driven undersea cable network is receiving landing licences.

All well meaning individuals and corporate bodies should also encourage this fully indigenous grown initiative.
Opeke and her team should also be singled and inked in the sands of time for this well thought project for the benefit of Nigerians and the whole of Africa.
