Telcos Adopt Alternative Power, Cut Cost by 40%

Telecom operators have adopted the use of alternative and renewable power solutions leveraging on its capacity to save them up to 40 percent on operational cost to power site, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek can now reveal.
Nigeria’s public power supply is notoriously unreliable accounting for the high cost of doing business in the country.
But from the enormous amount of energy from the sun that falls on planet earth, experts are now harnessing sun’s energy to produce electricity without noise, emissions, and other pollutions associated with the use of fuel.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that a series of hybrid solutions integrating sources of energy like wind, water and solar are used to provide electricity to remote locations and areas that fail to offer consistent or any main power to help reduce overall energy cost.  
PNN, a Pan African technology service provider playing a significant role in the development of the telecommunication and energy sectors of the economy  affirmed that the use of alternative power source can drive down cost for efficient service delivery to subscribers at reduced cost leading to an increase in the number of subscriber base, making it a win-win for both operators and subscribers.
Alternative power source has been proven to be cost efficient mostly where the cost of providing electricity is expensive or problematic.
It is cost effective because of its comparative capital expenditure, very low system maintenance, long engine and alternator life. It engines consumes less fuel and reduces fuel consumption
