Telecommunications operator in the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) space, Multi-Links Telkom has pledge its support to West African ICT Congress (Wafict Congress 2009) as a silver sponsor.
Mr. Thami Msimango, managing director, Multi-Links Telkom, a high-flyer in the African telecom environment, will be speaking at the highly elevated conference, which prides such big names as Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, the execuve vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications and Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, the CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, as lead speakers.
Ijeoma Abazie, chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Multi-Links Telkom, who confirmed the company’s participation in a letter to Mkpe Abang, editor-in-chief of Africa’s foremost ICT magazine, IT & Telecom Digest, organizers of the WAFICT Congress 2009, the telecom giant states that:
“We are pleased to inform you that Multi-Links Telkom’s Management has accepted your invitation to speak at the plenary and also approved silver sponsorship of the Congress and our participation in the exhibition,” the letter stated.
Reacting to the Multi-Links Telkom sponsorship of the congress and exhibition at West Africa’s biggest show, this year being the ninth year since W.Afri.Tel was introduced, Mr. Abang said:
“When it was not clear whether private telephone operations could thrive in Nigeria, Multi-Links blazed the trail by becoming the first privately owned company to begin operations in December 1997. When many thought that the CDMA market was beginning to slow down in Nigeria, Telkom of South Africa knew otherwise, and came over and acquired Multi-Links, thereby transforming into Multi-Links Telkom.
“We are therefore not surprised that this company is signaling that it has a clearer vision of the Nigerian telecom market than many thought, and that it knows where and when to pitch its tent. Surely the Nigerian CDMA market needs robust and dynamic players; and Multi-Links Telkom has proved that it is ready to take on the market very seriously.”
“We have no doubt that by speaking at the congress and exhibiting at W.Afri.Tel 2009 in a much bigger way than the company had done in the past, Multi-Links Telkom is sending clear signals that it is a giant here to take a sizeable share of a market that is not even showing signs of slowing down yet.” Abang added.
