Glo “text 4 millions” super promo recently ended in a blaze of glory with Ibrahim Abukar, a 36-year old electrician based in Abuja, winning the N30m grand prize.
Abukar, a native of Katsina State who is married with four children, said that though he had been on the Glo network for the past four years and had been participating in the “text 4 millions” promotion right from the beginning, he was totally surprised to learn that he had been picked as the winner of the top prize.
Overwhelmed with elation, Abukar said words could not express his gratitude to God and Globacom for giving him such a huge amount and the opportunity to be able to change the destiny of his family for good. “I will use part of the money for the education of my children, use some to upgrade my business, send my parents to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj and also use part of it to help the less privileged in the society”, he said.
Alhaji Suleiman Abukar, the father of the winner who escorted his son to the prize presentation at the Welcome Centre in Lagos on Sunday, said he decided to come along so that he could express the gratitude of his family to Globacom for blessing them through the promo. He explained that his son who is both hardworking and responsible will put the money to positive use.
“His life will now be changed. If Globacom can give this boy N30m from nowhere, then nobody should doubt the sincerity of Globacom and the transparency of its promos”, he said.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Mohamed Jameel, group chief operating officer, Globacom, who was represented by Mr. Ken Hall, director of sales, said that the Glo “text 4 millions” promo” created the highest number of millionaires in any promo in Nigeria.
He said the promo which created a total of 133 millionaires also created several multi millionaires including Ibrahim Abukar, the grand prize winner and the monthly prize winners of N10m each, Mr. Izuchukwu Onyimba, a provision seller in Badagry and Rev. Alex Iduh of the Church of God Mission in Benin-City. Twenty eight other winners were also presented with cheques of N2m each at the grand finale while six other remaining N1m winners were also presented with their cheques.
Jameel congratulated the 133 Glo Millionaires who were all called on stage for a group photograph, saying that their presence was proof that the promotion had been credible and transparent.
“Your presence indicates clearly that we have kept faith with our subscribers and kept our promise to make millionaires and even multi-millionaires out of ordinary Nigerians who have been loyal to our network. Let me assure you that Glo will continue to explore opportunities to reward its loyal subscribers without compromising on excellent service delivery and innovation which has become our hallmark”, he said.
The grand finale of the “text 4 Millions” promo presentation was done at a special edition of the Glo Laffta Fest with ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka as the anchor. The Glo millionaires celebrated together with over 2,500 other Glo subscribers who were invited for the event. The audience was entertained by comedians such as Gordons, Pikin and Basket Mouth while Faze and Terry G provided thrilling music at the occasion.
Among the personalities at the event were Ms. Maria Svensson, Globacom’s director of Customer Care, Mr. Samson Isa, Head, Value Added Services, Emmanuel Babayaro, a member of Nigeria’s 1993 Under-17 gold medal winning team and Glo ambassadors, Nonso Diobi, Mike Ezuruonye, Chioma Chukwuka, Monalisa Chinda and Ego Ogbaro.
