Dr. Mike Adenuga, chairman, Globacom Limited, has reaffirmed his commitment to the further development of Nigeria and her people even as the company repositions to rule the world of telecommunications in Africa.
Adenuga said this in his address to this year’s Ojude Oba festival which was celebrated at the weekend in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
He called on all sons and daughters of Ijebuland at home and in the Diaspora to pull human and material resources together for the continued development of the area. The festival, which comes up yearly two days after the Eid el Kabir celebrations, is a platform for communal cohesion and group expression.
Adenuga noted that Ojude Oba was a unique opportunity for stock-taking, a time to project into the future and a time to aspire for the realisation of a common resolve which represents the cultural dispositions of the Ijebu people.
According to him, the fact that Ojude Oba has been celebrated for over 100 years with a monumental degree of acceptability and popularity is a testament to the uniqueness of the tradition from which it stems and the people behind it.
He further added that the festival affords the Ijebu people the opportunity to showcase their legendary hospitality, enviable traditions and rich cultural values.
Adenuga said that the convergence in the driving spirit behind Ojude Oba and the ideals of Globacom has sustained the interest of the company for the past five years in collaborating with the festival’s planning committee in staging this world class carnival.
Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Awujale of Ijebuland, had, in his address, declared that Ojude Oba had found a trustworthy ally in Globacom for five years. Said he, “Not only are they most ready to give us financial support, they are most diligent and enthusiastic working on issues relating to the Ojude Oba festival”.
He stated that the doggedness, industry and business integrity of Adenuga are some of the qualities which have enhanced Globacom’s market leadership and contributed to making Adenuga a pride not only to Ijebuland, but to Nigeria as a whole.
