PAFF Honours Amaa Founder for Promoting African Culture

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder, African Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) has been selected for the Pan African Film Festival/Africa Channel Visionary Award for her efforts in promoting African culture through her platform.
In a letter which conveyed her selection and signed by Ayoku Babu, executive director of the Los Angeles, California-based Pan African Film Festival, the award organizers said the Amaa chief executive has distinguished herself as a visionary African committed to the promotion and elevation of the film industry in the continent through her advocacy at international fora and the Amaa awards.
“You have been selected for this award because of your vision for the elevation of the PanAfrican film industry with its projection of a PanAfrican image accurately rooted in  PanAfrican culture. It is through film that African people will most effectively be able to create and reflect upon their own images and stories in the 21st Century.”
“Our theme for the 2010 PAFF is “Get Involved.” We know of no better examplification of the spirit behind this theme than yourself. Your founding of the African Movie Academy Awards is an inspiration to us all. It is through your tireless efforts that it has become an institution of ever growing importance. We are confident that it will very shortly take its place as one of World Cinema’s great award events,” Babu wrote.
The award will be presented to the Amaa boss and others at the PAFF/Africa Channel’s Night of Tribute on the evening of Friday, February 12, at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, California.
The event designed to be a red-carpet ceremony will be recorded and televised by the Africa Channel and its affiliates throughout the United States, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe.
In the same vein, Babu also used the letter to invite Anyiam-Osigwe to the 18th Annual Pan African Film Festival which will take place from February 10 through February 17, 2010 in Los Angeles.
“We would like you to be our special guest at our Opening Night Gala on February 10 at the Directors Guild of America Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The gala will feature the premiere of “Blood Done Signed My Name” starring Nate Parker (“The Great Debators” and “The Sercret Life of Bees”), Lela Rochon (“Waiting to Exhale”) and Omar Benson Miller (Miracle at Saint Anna). You will also be our special guest at all PAFF related activities and have access to all attending filmmakers,” the letter ended.
