Gwandu, Ex-NCC Commissioner Speaks @ UK Parliament

Dr. Bashir Gwandu, former executive commissioner, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has been invited to speak at the forthcoming event being put together by prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, the Africa All Party Parliament Group (Africa APPG) in Collaboration with the Royal Academy.

Gwandu, a fellow of the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET), UK, and chairman of the Commonwealth ITU Group will speak on African telecommunications markets at the event scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 9 at Committee Room 14, at the Westminster Houses of Parliament, UK.

According to a publication by the Royal African Society, in addition to Gwandu, other speakers on the panel include: Rt. Hon. Chi Onwurah MP, leading member of the Africa All Party Parliamentary Group and Mr Stephen Young, shadow cabinet office minister, the head of Profession for Infrastructure, DFID; and Mr. Layth Irani of the SBMC Group.

Some of the areas for discussion includes, Engineering Capacity needs, the assessment of the telecoms industry so far, the opportunities, and the larger lessons for the private Sector.

The discussions are to be chaired by Egon Cossou, editor of BBC World’s Africa Business Report.

The Africa All Party Parliament Group comprises of over 20 MPs and Members of the House of lords some of whom are also Members of the Nigeria All Party Parliamentary group.

They have special interest in the continent of Africa and have worked in collaboration with Royal African Society to promote the interest of Africa and raise pan-African issues in the Parliament. 

In addition to Chi Onwurah MP other key members of the Group includes Rt. Hons. Hugh Bayley MP, Meg Hillier MP, Pauline Latham MP, Jeremy Lefroy MP, and Baroness Lynda Chalker, Baroness Glenys Kinnock, Lord Steel of Aikwood.
