Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has ruled out compensation to mobile network subscribers, after the apex regulator slammed another N647.5 million on Glo and Airtel for breach of key performance indicators (KPIs) and poor quality of service for the month of January.
This is coming on the heels of the insistence of National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS) for immediate compensation of N595 billion for all subscribers across all networks, for various inconveniences they had suffered over poor service quality in the last 12 years.
NATCOMS has since August last year been demanding the payment of N5, 000 to each telecoms subscriber, by telecommunications companies in the country.
Reuben Muoka, head, Public Relations of the NCC said that the enabling act setting up the NCC did not provide for such action
Muoka told CAJ News that the commission would provide necessary support for any subscriber willing to sue any of the sanctioned telecoms firms.
It would recalled that the NCC had earlier in the week imposed a N647.5 million in penalties on MTN, Glo and Airtel for failing its key performance indicators (KPIs) and poor quality of service for the month of January.
Globacom was fined N277.5 million for three breaches, while MTN and Airtel got fined N185 million each for two breaches.
The NCC set four critical KPIs: Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), Traffic Channel Congestion (TCHCONG) and Stand Alone Dedicated Control Channel Congestion (SDCONG).
