Gilat Satcom Optimises Hubs to Transmit Traffic from IPv6 Addresses

Gilat Satcom, Communication solutions provider, has announced that its hubs in Malawi, Zambia and the UK have been optimised to receive and transmit traffic from IPv6 addresses.

A company statement explained that operators in Africa are now assigning IPv6 addresses to new and existing customers, and have an established route for traffic within the continent as well as to and from overseas.

Operators in both Malawi and Zambia are already using Gilat Satcom's IPv6-enabled POPs in preference to the routes of other wholesale fibre, satellite and wireless carriers, notes the statement.

Ofer Doron, vice president of engineering at Gilat Satcom said, "Operators in Africa are now turning their attention to how they manage the transition to IPv6. Our broadband packages now use our proven IPv6-enabled routes so that operators have one less thing to worry about."

During 2015 Gilat Satcom will be upgrading all of its fibre and satellite networks throughout Africa to cater for increasing demand from operators, resellers and businesses of all sizes.

Gilat Satcom provides broadband over both satellite and fibre to more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Its customers include telcos, ISPs, governments, enterprise customers and international organisations.
