Aderounmu, NCS President Asks FG to Deepen ICT Growth

Professor Adesola Aderounmu, president, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has urged the federal government to speed up measures to deepen Information Technology (IT) growth in the country.

Aderounmu made the call at his investiture on Friday in Lagos, as the 13th President of NCS and the inauguration of the 19th national executive council (NEC).

According to him, no nation can grow faster than the level of its IT growth in the modern day economy.

He said, all over the world, IT is a major driver of the economy and deserves to be accorded its deserved position by the President Muhammadu Buhari led government.

‎"In China today, it is good to know how IT has helped to advance the country's economy. Same can be said of the trio of Israel, India and Ireland with substantial part of their foreign earnings from software export.

‎"We hope, early in the life of this administration, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, especially NITDA to convoke an all-inclusive IT Stakeholders' meeting to chat the path for IT in Nigeria," he said.

Aderounmu was elected as NCS President on July 24, 2015, during NCS international conference in Ondo State.

He said that in the next two years NCS will focus on three key area including, IT advocacy; Research and Development and NCS Physical presence.

"The welfare of our members is central to this administration. As such, we will provide platforms for capacity building, employment generation and wealth creation," he said.
 
Aderounmu‎ holds B.Sc (hons) in Computer Engineering, M.Sc in Computer Science and Ph.D in Computer Science, all from the famous Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

He is an active member‎ of the Computer Professional (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN); member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (mNSE), and member, Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

His professional accomplishments/grants/Awards and contributions ‎to the IT development in Nigeria include, but not limited to African Centre of Excellence World Bank grant (institutions) for OAU ICT Driven Knowledge Park; TEFund Research Grant; ETF group research grant; among others.

The newly inaugurated NEC members of NCS include Veronica Owolabi, deputy president, Mr. Jide Awe, chairman, Conferences Committee, Mr. Kola Jagun, chairman, Credentials, Michael Olajide, chairman, Publicity, Events and Trade Services, Olorogun James, chairman, Audit Committee and Afolayan Obiniyi.
