Galaxy Backbone Ltd a leading ICT infrastructure and services company based in Abuja has been described as “the true builder of a digital, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria” by no less a personality than Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, president of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
According to NCS President, Galaxy Backbone has continued to make to it mark in internet penetration in the public service despite the harsh operating environment.
“Galaxy has stood out and driven significant improvements in the Nigerian economy with world class offerings and standards. Your deployment and application of technology has been most fruitful and outstanding. NCS commends your efforts so far and urges you to do even more in the present digital gaps”.
Prof. Aderounmu made the assertion when he paid a courtesy visit to the management of Galaxy Backbone.
He said that NCS is the nation’s foremost Information Technology network with membership strength of over 10,000 comprising of IT professionals, interest groups and stakeholders having footprints in business, government and academia.
The objectives of NCS amongst others include to promote information technology education and training, IT research and development; fostering integrity and professionalism of computing; and advising members, governments, competent authorities and the general public on national and international policy matters affecting the industry and profession.
NCS president listed the Society’s accomplishments to include the passage of Act No. 49 of 1993 establishing Computer Professionals Registration Council (CPN), the establishment of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Ministry of Communication Technology.
He stated that these were achieved working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders. Continuing, he said that NCS is on the board of several national policy making, development and technology focused institutions such as NITDA, CPN and the Broadband Council.
Prof Aderounmu solicited Galaxy’s support for the National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) which he described as the most important and recognized award ceremony in the IT community because the award is a recognition and reward for excellence in the industry.
Yusuf Kazaure, managing director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone Ltd commended the NCS leadership for reaching out for the support of industry stakeholders in the public sector. He re-emphasized Galaxy’s corporate philosophy of partnering with its stakeholders towards the achievement of its corporate objectives and national development.
