As Nigeria celebrates her 56th Independence Day anniversary on October 1, 2016, Out of Nigeria (OON), an adventure and social good organization, has launched a campaign tagged Heroes and Helmets, to inspire a strong sense of patriotism amongst citizens both home and abroad.
The campaign was launched against the background of a challenging time for the country as well as the military which have been fighting to maintain the territorial integrity of the nation.
Mr Toyin Adebola, founder of Out of Nigeria, said: “We plan to recognize the sacrifices of Nigeria’s past and present heroes by honouring them with a selfie world record-setting attempt that will involve the participation of all Nigerians.”
He explained that the #heroesandhelmets campaign plans to galvanise Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, during the upcoming country’s National Day on Saturday, October 1, 2016, to show their support for the Armed Force, notably the Army, Navy, Airforce, FRSC, NSCDC, among others, by supporting Out of Nigeria Adventure to set a record for the “Most self-portraits (selfies) taken in 24 hours.”
“Out of Nigeria, www.outofnigeriaadventure.com, supported by multiple Guinness World Record (GWR) holder, Carl Reese, Adventure Rider Ron Grace and Brad Barker of The Ride of My Life from the United State of America will use the Heroes and Helmet Campaign to raise awareness of the work of the Nigeria’s armed servicemen whilst showing appreciation of their bravery and commitment,” he said.
The campaign will require individuals to take a selfie on October 1st, 2016, ensure it includes an armed service professional, and post them on key social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) with the hashtag #heroesandhelmets.
The selfies will be aggregated on the Heroes and Helmets website, www.heroesandhelmets.com which will house the content and curate it into a digital album.
Each entry will be time stamped and a counter built to show the total number of selfies achieved all done to help with the adjudication process.
