Enugu State Government is resolved to promoting sustainable technological development through information and Communication Technology (ICT), said Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the executive Governor of the State.

The Governor who spoke through Engr Greg Nnaji, the State's commissioners of Science and Technology at the two-day TechDev Summit in Enugu during the week, said that such effort led to the administration granting waivers to Galaxy Backbone on right of way (RoW), in deploying critical broadband infrastructure in the State.

Ugwuanyi who underscored the importance of TechDev Summit 2016 to the State, especially this time when the country is in dire need of a broad-based development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures, added that they are ready to partner techpreneurs who would strategically apply new technologies in growing the State's economy

"We also understand the full import of this summit where experts in ICT have converged, especially in view of its potentials for creating employment, a prospect that means keying into one of the aims of most of our programmes as a government.

"Today, Enugu is one of the fastest growing ICT States in the country, a feat achieved through propagation of her status as a host to various tertiary educational institutions.

"On our part as a state, we have continued to promote sustainable Technological Development through information and Communication Technology (ICT) by taking various steps in that direction. For instance, there is this Galaxy Backbone which is providing a National Information & Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) to which our administration has granted a waiver for Right of Way and an accommodation/free lease agreement at No 29 Okpara Avenue, here in the state capital.

"It is on record that this administration has assigned the supervision of the project to Ministry of Science & Technology, Enugu. We have also successfully reactivated the Enugu State Friendship Emergency Call Centre short code 117".
