MultiChoice Nigeria has said that its leadership and strategic decisions remain locally driven following its acquisition by Canal+, as the pay-TV operator seeks to combine global resources with an understanding of Nigeria’s market.
Kemi Omotosho, chief executive officer (CEO) of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the company continues to make decisions on pricing, content, channel packaging, and distribution based on the economic realities and preferences of Nigerian consumers.
In a statement on Monday, she said that “Since September 2025, MultiChoice has been part of CANAL+, a global media and entertainment group”.
“MultiChoice Nigeria operates as part of that global group, but our business here remains firmly focused on Nigeria, our customers, our people, our partners, and our local creative industry.”
She said the company’s local executive team, which understands the Nigerian market, remains responsible for key operational decisions affecting products such as DStv and GOtv.
“The advantage of being part of a global group is that we can draw on ideas, technology, and experience from other markets and adapt what works for Nigeria,” Omotosho said.
“Equally, when we develop something successful here, there is an opportunity for other markets to learn from us. The principle is quite simple: we think globally, but we act locally.”
Omotosho said the combination of Canal+’s global scale and MultiChoice Nigeria’s local market knowledge would strengthen the company’s ability to respond to economic pressures while continuing to invest in Nigerian content, infrastructure, and talent.
She said access to global technology, expertise, and experience would allow the Nigerian business to adopt solutions from other markets while also exporting successful local ideas across the wider group.
In 2025, Canal+, a France-based global media and entertainment company with operations across 70 countries, acquired MultiChoice as part of a broader expansion of its African and international entertainment business.
The acquisition brought MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, under the CANAL+ group while retaining its focus on its existing markets.
On July 9, David Mignot, chief executive officer (CEO) of Canal+ Africa, said MultiChoice has become a full subsidiary of the French media company following its full integration into the group.
