Experts to Tackle Terrorism, Cyber Crime, Others At Securex 2014
Security experts are set to tackle the endemic issues on terrorism; cyber security; border, port and airport; counter intelligence, among others at this year’s security exhibition and conference (Securex West Africa).
At Securex 2014, leading commercial, homeland and cyber security, fire protection and safety suppliers will be discussing their latest security initiatives, trends, challenges and emerging technologies hinted Tori Abiola, managing director, Montgomery West Africa, organizers of the event .
Speaking at press conference on Wednesday, in Lagos, Abiola, said that the Securex has become expedient for experts to gather, share ideas and showcase new inventions on how to tame rising cases of security challenges in both the public, industrial and domestic domains.
She added that Securex in its fourth years has become a platform for both the government and the private sector to review security issues and fashion out proactive and best approaches hence education and information sharing are important aspects of security in any society.
According to her, the event will be evaluating existing counter terrorism policies, understanding new domain threats posed by regionally active militant organisations, cyber security, training security forces and strategic approaches to emerging threats.
Participants will also be accessing gaps in existing commercial and homeland security infrastructure, implementing effective resilience measures to mitigate potential crisis and more at the trade show taking place March 18-19in Lagos at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos.
The Montgomery MD said, “Security is everybody’s concern. However, in Securex we are looking at experts, critically, interrogating current security challenges and then designing appropriate national, sub-national and private sector responses to them; and, more particularly, in driving specialization across the broad spectrum of possible responses both human and technological”.
On his part, Colonel Ojo Kadiri (rtd.), consultant, Halogen Security, ringed the conference as timely, hence chief executives need education on communication with both the industrial and state security personnel.
He bemoaned lack of intelligence gathering and usage by state security agencies, hinting that the current Boko Haram rampage could be contained through share information among the nation’s security outfits.
The Securex West Africa trade show, organised by Montgomery West Africa and sponsored by HIK Vision, Halogen Security, Kontz Engineering and Rapid Vigil is supported by the United Kingdom Trade and Investment, Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of
Nigeria, Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security and Institute of Safety Professional Of Nigeria.
Others are, The International Institute of Professional Security, Lagos State Safety Commission, World Trade Center of Nigeria, International Institute of Risk and Safety Management and Occupational Safety and Health Academy Nigeria is a must attend event changing the face of West Africa’s security industry.

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an ongoing upgrade and maintenance of its passport portal for applicants within Nigeria.
In a public notice shared on Sunday via its official ‘X’ page, the NIS reassured Nigerians that other services, including passport applications for citizens abroad, remain fully operational during the maintenance period.
The service stated that its team is “working tirelessly” to complete the upgrade and restore full functionality within 72 hours.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate your patience and understanding,” the notice read. It emphasized that the upgrade is part of efforts to enhance service delivery.
Reaffirming its commitment to excellence, the NIS pledged to provide efficient services to Nigerians at home and abroad.

TikTok has resumed services to its 170 million users in the US after President-elect Donald Trump said he would issue an executive order to give the app a reprieve when he takes office today, January 20.
On Saturday evening, January 18, the Chinese-owned app stopped working for American users, after a law banning it on national security grounds came into effect.
Trump, who had previously backed a ban on the platform, promised on Sunday to delay the implementation of the law and allow more time for a deal to be made. TikTok then said that it was in the process of “restoring service”.
Soon after, the app started working again and a popup message to its millions of users thanked Trump by name.
In a statement, the company thanked the incoming president for “providing the necessary clarity and assurance” and said it would work with Trump “on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States”.
TikTok CEO Shou Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration today.
Posting on Truth Social, a social media platform he owns, Trump said on Sunday: “I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security.”
TikTok’s parent company, Bytedance, previously ignored a law requiring it to sell its US operations to avoid a ban. The law was upheld by Supreme Court on Friday and went into effect on Sunday.
It is unclear what legal authority Trump will have to delay the implementation of a law that is already in effect. But it expected that his government will not enforce the ban if he issues an executive order.
