Insight @ Cannes Lions Festival, Invests in Technology
Insight, integrated marketing communications agency recently sent the largest delegation from Africa to the 2012 Cannes Lions Festival to garner inspiration, hub-nub with likeminds from agencies across the world and to foster new ideas, business relationships, social networks and strategic alliances.
This is in a bid to further firm up its commitment of proffering world-class integrated solutions to clients.
Chima Okenimkpe, creative director, Insight Nigeria, who attended the two-week long Cannes Creative Leaders Programme, organized yearly by the Berlin School of Creative Leadership in conjunction with the Cannes Festival of Creativity, said, “the Cannes Creativity Festival is like the perfect question, one that can never be answered. This is my second time here and I’m still searching for the answer. The Berlin School didn’t give me the answers, but they showed me the questions to ask and where to look for answers. If you are in any way interested in creative brand management and business, Cannes should be on your bucket list.”
In order to consolidate on its brand building successes with marketers seeking for neutral media solutions and to build a truly global digital competency, Insight has made annual pilgrimages to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for almost a decade – amongst other global confabs like Advertising Age’s Digital Conference and GSMA Mobile World Congress.
Franklin Ozekhome, head of marketing, Insight Nigeria, offered his own perspective on how marketers could reach consumers and constructively engage them if they combined technology and creativity in ingénue more innovative ways.
“We adopted a deliberate strategy for participating in this year’s festivities driven by our need to harness the best of ideas, inspiration and future-thinking in three focal areas: Consumer Engagement – Turning consumers into fans and advocates of brands that they love; Brand Storytelling – Engaging the human senses with compelling sounds, great visuals, distinct smells and stories that touch the heart; and Futuretainment – creating emotional experiences that drive participation”.
Explaining further Ozekhome said “We have already shared our experiences with business heads, project teams, colleagues, clients, business networks and stakeholders at the agency by mapping our experiences in a 3D exposition dubbed ‘Cannes Deconstructed’.
‘After all, the essence of knowledge is, having it, to apply it,’ he said.
For over three decades, Insight Communications, Nigeria’s foremost marketing communications agency, has recorded huge successes on practically every brand it has worked on. For marketers – past and present – who have given Insight the opportunity to work on their brands, tend to share similar tales of progression in market share, volume sales, and growth in brand health indexes.
From Peak Milk to Bank PHB, Pepsi to Samsung, and Vitafoam to Ribena, brand marketers have had cause to smile whenever Insight took on the strategic role of marketing services consultant for their leading, challenger or start-up brands. Of course, the results are there for all to see. Most of Insight’s clients are either No.1 or strong number 2’s across their respective categories.

TikTok Announces Plans to Cease Operations in the U.S. by January 19, 2025
TikTok has officially announced plans to cease its operations in the United States by January 19, 2025.
“Absent such relief, the Act will take effect on January 19, 2025,” TikTok said in a Dec. 9 legal filing. “That would shut down TikTok—one of the Nation’s most popular speech platforms for its more than 170 million domestic monthly users on the eve of a presidential inauguration.”
Last year, President Joe Biden signed into law, a legislation to remove TikTok from U.S. app stores and prohibit internet providers across the nation from allowing access to the platform if ByteDance cannot sell to an American company by Jan. 19.
The legislation was put in place amid concerns of China possibly using TikTok to spy on U.S. residents.
In response, TikTok filed an emergency motion for an injunction to stop the ban from taking effect, arguing that it violates the First Amendment and will generate “substantial losses,” per legal documents.
The Supreme Court is slated to hear oral arguments on Jan. 10 over whether or not the law should be upheld.
Meanwhile, several entrepreneurs have launched a bid to purchase TikTok, including Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary.
“This isn’t just about buying TikTok’s U.S. assets,” he wrote in a Jan. 6 message on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s about something much bigger: protecting the privacy of 170 million American users.”
O’Leary continued, “It’s about empowering creators and small businesses. And it’s about building a platform that prioritizes PEOPLE over algorithms. TikTok has immense potential, not just as a tool for creators but as a driver of meaningful economic and social impact.”
However, O’Leary said he’ll likely need an assist from President-elect Donald Trump, who will be sworn into office on Jan. 20.
“Trump will be who we have to work with to close the deal in the months ahead,” he explained during a Jan. 6 appearance on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum, per The Wrap. “So, I wanted to let him know—as well as others in his cabinet—that we’re doing this, and we’re going to need their help.”
