AfriHUB Nigeria Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of AfriHUB LLC, Virginia, United States of America (USA) and a leading capacity building in all levels of information and communications technology (ICT), in conjunction with Zinox Technologies, have commissioned a world-class ICT park at the University of Calabar, Cross River state.
Professor Manny Aniebonam, AfriHUB’s president and chief executive officer, said that the initiative is part of his company’s desire not only to mark an entrance to the Niger Delta region but also to ensure that the skills – web development, systems design, database administration – are globally relevant.
"At AfriHUB, we believe that Africans and Nigerians in particular must ourselves find lasting solution to our development problems. Besides this, we also believe that technology and its application is the answer we must embrace to secure our future, become competitive and remain globally relevant:, he noted.
With the center at Unical, AfriHUB now has two new additional ICT parks within the first quarter of this year.
Earlier, the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna joined the league of digital universities in Nigeria with over 400 computers deployed at AfriHUB@FUT, making it first of its kind in the whole Northern part of the country.
In a document made available to Communications Week, the center has six multimedia classrooms, one digital library with over 3000 digital resources, a cyber center that can sit over 100 students as at a go and a refreshment center.
The Unical center which was commissioned by Barrister Effiok, deputy governor of the state, operates 24 hours and is supported by high speed Internet access and a back up 150kva generating set.
It would be recalled that AfriHUB Nigeria Limited was established in 2004 to provide human capacity building technologies, include satellite and wireless Internet access telephony and US instructor-led technical training to universities and polytechnics in Nigeria.
