Basil Agboarumi, general manager, Corporate Communications, Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL), has been awarded with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Special Recognition Award.
The award was presented during a Gala/Award Dinner with the theme: “Celebrating Our Own Stars,” which held at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja recently and played host to a wide spectrum of very important and high profile personalities including Dr. Liyel Imoke, the Executive Governor of Cross River State and Dr. Ibrahim Shekarau, the Honourable Minister of Education.
Mr. Rotimi Oladele, president & chairman of Council, NIPR noted that the award was conferred on Mr. Agboarumi “as a result of his distinct industry and recent outstanding contributions impacting positively on Nigeria’s reputation,” adding that his recognition “came as a result of the clear cut values he has generated on his duty post.”
Speaking further to the recipient, Oladele left no one in doubt of the Council’s decision when he declared that: “It is imperative for Nigerians to know and appreciate your efforts over time and as the professional Institute with the mandate of reputation management, regulation of corporate communication and public affairs practice, we cannot but celebrate your expertise, experience, commitment and patriotism.”
Mr. Basil Agboarumi was recently promoted to the position of General Manager as a testament to his professionalism and recognition of his invaluable contributions to SAHCOL in the area of corporate communications and public relations management of the organisation.
Basil holds a National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, a Masters in Communications Studies (Mcs) from the Lagos State University, and a Certificate in Creative Design & Digital Communication from the School of Media & Communications of the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
His career started at the Auchi Polytechnic, while as a student he doubled as the Editor-in-Chief of the Think-Right Magazine, and the Auchi Polytechnic’s Official Newspaper: Auchi Express.
During his National Youth Service with the Kanji Lake National Parks, New-Bussa, Niger State in 1997, he authored a book, Borgu: Past, Present and Future, which chronicled the potentials of the Borgu tribe, in Niger State, Nigeria.
In 1999, Basil Agboarumi was mandated by the Nigerian National Parks Headquarter, Abuja to compile a book on the “Attributes and Potentials of the National Parks” in Nigeria.
In 2000, Basil joined the Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited, then a subsidiary of the Nigeria Airways Limited, as the Pioneer staff/Head of the Public Affairs Unit.
After the privatization and subsequent takeover of Skypower Aviation Handling Company Limited by the SIFAX Group in 2009, Basil Agboarumi was appointed the Head of Corporate Communications, with a mandate to spearhead the re-branding of the new company (Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited).
He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR) and an Associate Member of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (arpa).
An Aluminous of the School of Media and Communications of the Pan-Atlantic University, as well as a member of the Course 13 of the School of Media & Communication’s Strategies For Optimizing Corporate Communication Skills (SOCCS).
He was one of the Nigerian delegate to the 2014 World public Relations Forum, held in Madrid, Spain. He has also attended trainings, seminars and conferences in Nigeria and abroad (Africa, Europe and Asia).
Meanwhile, Med-view Airline has presented an award of appreciation to SAHCOL, for its tremendous support towards the growth of the airline as it celebrate two years of flight operations in Nigeria.
