Airtel Networks Limited was last Wednesday capped the mobile telecommunications operator with the best service quality in the country by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The even happened simultaneously, as the network formally commissioned her brand new state of the art next-generation Data Centre nicknamed intelligence nerve centre in Lagos.

The NCC, in its audit report for March and April, said Airtel recorded the best performance in call set-up success rate, drop call rate, call completion rate and traffic channel congestion.

Rajan Swaroop, the chief executive officer and managing director of Airtel Nigeria, was elated at the commendation and said that the network was ready to improve on its performance.

"We began the journey of building a network with the best quality of service about 18 months ago. I am glad today that our efforts have started yielding positive results," he said.

"But this is just the beginning; we will not relent in actualising our vision of being the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians. We will continue to delight telecom consumers with a robust network and innovative products and services."

At the data centre commissioning Dr. Oba Otudeko, the chairman of Airtel Networks Limited, said that centre comes with state-of-the-art technology and equipment.

“It is the biggest Data Centre in Airtel Africa with 20,000sq feet of equipment space and goes live with multiple back-ups in terms of power and redundancy for delivering seamless service to the millions of Airtel Subscribers in Nigeria.

“In everyday language, I can describe the Data Centre as the intelligence nerve-centre of our network, which also provides redundancy to ensure that the network performs unhindered even in times of crisis,” he said.

Otudeko reiterated that Airtel is in Nigeria to stay and committed to building a world class network so as to recapture the leadership of the market, and ultimately become the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerian.

“Our 3.75G network, which is the widest and the best in Nigeria, among other ground-breaking products and services, is an eloquent testimony to our firm resolve to dictate the pace of innovation and value creation in the Nigerian telecommunications market.
“I would like to thank all our partners, including Ericsson, Astra and Resourcery, who have worked extremely hard for the realization of this project,” the chairman observed.
