‎Leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria, has restated its commitment to empowering less privileged Nigerians as it, on Thursday,  donated food stuffs, consumables, relief items and other materials to support the students, staff and management of the Bethesda Home of the Blind located in Surulere, Lagos.

The Airtel Team, which was led by Femi Oshinlaja, Airtel Regional Operations Director for Lagos Region, used the occasion to interact, bond and share inspiring stories with the students and other stakeholders of the Home.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Oshinlaja said Airtel Nigeria is committed to touching the lives of millions of Nigerians and will continually embark on CSR activities that will help transform the communities where it operates in.

“We are happy to be here today to share with Bethesda home for the blind, as part of our CSR activity, Airtel Touching Lives. Every month, Airtel Nigeria employees contribute to support worthy causes, which will help empowerNigerians, especially the less privileged in our society. We can only but imagine the trials residents of Bethesda home of the blind go through, and so today we are here to offer relief and help ease the pain,” he said.

According to him, Airtel Nigeria is committed to earning its social licence to operate through its robust Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, also noting that the telco will continue to explore ways of enriching the lives of all its stakeholders.

‎“We thank Bethesda home for the blind for allowing us the opportunity to touch their lives in our own way. We are not stopping here and this is not going to be our last visit, we will continue to offer support to the students in every way we can,” he added.

Also speaking at the occasion, Mrs Chioma Ohakwe, founder, Bethesda home for the blind, thanked Airtel Nigeria for its contributions in uplifting the Home and empowering the less privileged.

“Our hearts are full of joy for this great thing Airtel Nigeria has done for us. Airtel Nigeria is not an organisation that serves itself alone but rather it gives to the less privileged. They are co-workers with God. This visit and the many gifts they have brought for us today is a landmark achievement for us”.

Parts of the items donated by Airtel to the home included a generator set, beverages, bags of rice, beans, flours, tubers of yams, washing soaps and toiletries, among others. 

The 72 children, which Bethesda Home for the Blind caters to were overjoyed with the love, care and attention they received from Airtel Nigeria.

They responded by entertaining the Airtel team with songs, comic skit, dance drama and comedy presentations.

The event was attended byMrs.Ronke Ogunsanya, Adekunle Adegboyega, Zonal Business Manager, Lagos North Zone, Airtel Nigeria;  Olawale Alao, Zonal Business Manager, Lagos West Zone, Airtel Nigeria; Abimbola Shopeju, Regional HR Manager, Lagos Region, Airtel Nigeria; Saheed Woods-Alli, Manager, High Value Segment, Airtel Nigeria amongst others.
