Akpabio, A/Ibom Gov Donates 100 Laptop s to Journalists

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has donated 100 new laptop computers to the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  in fulfillment of its promise made to the union last year.

The laptops were presented to journalists by Mr Aniekan Umanah, commissioner for information and communications, during a press briefing in Uyo to mark the end of 2014 working year.

Describing governor Akpabio as a promise keeper, the commissioner said the donation was part of the state government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and improved working conditions for media professionals.

“These are meant to equip you for better performance of your duties. I therefore have the honour of handing over 100 laptop computers to the NUJ for distribution to its members. I am sure you still remember that only last week, we handed over 1,000 units of GoTV decoders to the union. It is my happiness that the Akpabio-led administration, apart from creating enabling environment for the practice of journalism, has carried members along in the scheme of things,” Umanah said.

He advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the computers, saying “as we savour the benevolence of our purposeful and visionary leader and make merry together, I urge you all to continue to do your best to support the government.”

On the 2015 general election, the commissioner tasked journalists on professionalism. saying “the task of electing new leadership for our state is one that we cannot toy with. Therefore, let us with professional vigour and patriotic zeal, promote candidates that have the capacity and political will to make the music of uncommon transformation continue in our dear state.”
