Intercontinental Bank Plc has been commended by Adebayo Alao-Akala, the executive governor of Oyo State, for celebrating her customers as kings at the grand finale of the bank’s months-long 20th anniversary celebrations in Ibadan.
The governor said Intercontinental Bank Plc has done well to have made its customers the centre of the celebrations because it is the customers’ patronage that resulted in the successes being celebrated by the bank.
The governor drew attention to some of the bank’s contributions to the success of his administration especially in the area of micro-credit to thousands of Oyo State residents through the two institutions which was jointly floated for this purpose; the Pacesetter Micro Finance Institution and Blue Intercontinental Micro Finance Bank.
He lauded the recent signing of an agreement between Intercontinental Bank and the African Development Bank (ADB) to provide long-term funding for Nigeria’s small and medium scale enterprises totalling $100million at very low interest.
Akala emphasized that within a space of 20 years, the bank emerged among the few Nigerian companies that have placed the name of Nigeria on the global corporate world by making American Forbes Magazine’s top world’s 2000 companies along with three other Nigerian companies. This according to him was also reinforced when it emerged as one of the five Nigerian banks to be listed in the top 500 banks in the world by The Banker Magazine, a reputable publication of Financial Times of London.
Dr. Erastus Akingbola, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer said ‘‘shuttling across the nook and crannies of this country to celebrate with our customers is not too much a price to pay for the kind of patronage we have received from them over the years. Indeed they are the reason why we are celebrating’’.
It would be recalled that the Intercontinental Bank’s 20th Anniversary Customer Forum was kick-started two months ago in Kano City, and it was hosted in other major cities of Enugu, Abuja, Lagos, Uyo before making its final outing in the ancient city of Ibadan.
