Anco Expresses Worry over Postal Bill

Association of Nigeria Courier Operators (Anco) has urged the Courier Regulatory Department of Nipost vested with the power to regulate the postal sector to address issues concerning the postal bill which has resulted to delay on its passage as law for several years now.
During a meeting at the instance of Anco, Simeon Emeje, senior assistant Post-Master General and head CRD, explained that the postal bill is with the Bureau of Public Enterprises awaiting inputs from stakeholders. Emeje who was represented at the forum by Andrew Ebiloma, head of Enforcement, added that the BPE was entrusted with the responsibility by the government, to shop for the consultant that would understudy the postal field and come up with recommendations on how to make the turf greener. In the course of that assignment, the Bureau chose the Nethpost consultants from The Netherlands.
The consultants recommended for an independent regulatory body for the postal sector as against the present practice where the CRD, an organ of the Nipost, a player in the industry is calling the shots in the sector.
In addition, they recommended that the postal sector undergo reform and that the reform should aimed at increasing the postal activities so that every aspect of the post will have a role to play to the overall benefit of the system. 
Emeje urged members to read and study the postal bill as expected of them to make their inputs as whatever decision, that is taken will affect members collectively.  He reiterated the willingness of the body to work with Anco in ensuring that the sector is moved forward. He used the opportunity to inform members of the next training of the department coming up on April 15 and 16 at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.
Toyin Olufade, president of Anco, advised members to upgrade their companies’ profile and post same to the secretariat as further delays will no longer be tolerated, while enumerating so many gains that could accrue to members by having their companies’ name and logo appear in the association’s website. He also emphasized on the need to shore up the image of the industry as the way members position themselves has a lot to do in the image of the sector.
