Aviation Committee Assures Nigerians of Proactive Aviation Oversight

House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has assured Nigerians of more proactive and vibrant oversight in the aviation sector in year 2014.

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, chairman of the Committee, while speaking in Isiochi in Abia State shortly after presenting some items to the people of her constituency,  declared that there so many complaints from Nigerians about the aviation sector in 2013 which will be drastically reduced by the committee through oversight functions in 2014.

She disclosed that the aviation committee will swing into action by January 2014 to identify areas where the industry has faired well and also failed with a view to repositioning the sector.

“Nigerians should expect more proactive oversight meaning that what most people complained in 2013 about the aviation sector would be drastically reduced in 2014 God willing, last year because of lots of issues of oversight, so by this January we have gone back to the field and go on oversight, once on oversight we point out those things that we think not right are not right and things they have done well, so give and take Nigeria aviation sector would come out to be the best”.

While commending the initiative of the aviation minister for embarking on the remodeling of airports across the country, Onyejeocha noted that a lot needed to be done adding that passengers still sweat at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja stressing that it was not the right thing.

“I know that many people even this last Christmas they entered this international airport in Lagos, people were still sweating, so it is not right, how much will it take us to get our air-conditioning system right and so many other things, we have a lot of pluses and few minuses, but I know that by God’s grace in 2014 they would be addressed,” she added.

 On whether, the government will look into the Aviation committees recommendations on the investigation into the bullet proof cars, Onyejeocha said it was left for the government to implement that their duty as lawmakers have been concluded and the constitution of the country duly applied no matter whose ox is goad stressing the need for truth to be told always.

“Well for me the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria is very clear, all of us worked to protect the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria so whether you are an executive person or you are a parliamentarian or in the judiciary, the constitution is the primary things you need to protect and if all of us are Christians as we profess and if we so do”

“Why can’t we say the truth, we need to say the truth no matter who ox is being goad at any time and so for me the primary responsibility of any law maker in Nigeria is to God after here what do you tell your creator and so once you have that at the back if your mind you do your work”.

She said the committee has done the work assigned to them for me as chairman of the committee. “our work ended with the submission at the floor of the house and that the house had done their own recommendation it is not our business of what happens after, we have finished our own work it is left for the executive to do their own and off course what the constitution empowers us to do is to investigate the supposed corruption, it is not our duty to implement there is no way any lawmaker would implement”.
