Aviation, Space Engineering take Centre Stage on Glo-sponsored African Voices

Aviation and Space Engineering is the focus of this week’s edition of CNN African Voices Changemakers sponsored by national telecommunications company, Globacom.

The guests on the programme are a pilot from Botswana, Kgomotso Phatsima and Ghanaian space engineer, Ernest Teye Matey. Both guests are experts in STEM Education an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

A social entrepreneur, Kgomtso Phatsima, is also an aviation ambassador. Through her STEM education, she has been empowering youth in Botswana, where upcoming generations are being equipped with business, entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Phatsima who stated that “as a village girl when I was growing up, I used to see airplanes flying over our houses and from that early age, I knew I was born to fly” later became a pilot and was among the first female military pilots in Botswana Defence Force.

In 2017 she won the Botswana Youth Awards Best Female of the Year, followed by Obama Foundation Africa Leadership Program in 2018 where she emerged as one of the exceptional young leaders in Africa.

Matey on the other hand, has Masters Degree in Applied Science for Integration Systems Engineering from Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT). With the support of All Nations University, he has organised Space and STEM education program that reached more than 7,000 students, involving over 50 different high schools in Ghana.

Globacom urged viewers to watch African Voices on DSTV channel 401 on Saturday at 9.30 a.m. Repeat broadcasts of the programme  come up on Sunday at 4.30 a..m., 7.30 a.m, 12.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. It would also be repeated on Monday at 4.00 a.m., while a two-part, fifteen-minute repeats will be shown on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m. on both days.
