Bank PHB Staff across the country last Saturday took the first step towards the actualization of the Bank’s Employees Volunteers Programme.
Ig Ukpaka, an executive director at Bank PHB aided by the honourable chairmen of Eti-Osa Local Government and Iru/Victoria Island Local Government flagged off the event at the bank’s head office in Lagos. The Chairmen who commended the initiative said the bank has moved beyond inspirational adverts to “walking the talk.”
Simultaneously, all over the country, various staff of Bank PHB moved to different parts of their states to carry out the exercise. From sunrise to dusk, volunteers across the country cleaned the streets, others planted trees while some taught at the Bank’s National Scholars’ Scheme schools and other adopted schools.
Team V2 One of the teams monitored in Lagos moved to Methodist Boys High school on Victoria Island which the team has been supporting. The team had from January this year engaged the services of part time teachers to take students extra lectures in key subjects as they prepare for their WAEC and JAMB examinations.
The principal during the tour of the classes revealed that the support of Team V2 has been able to provide lunch for the few day students in the school as they are able to stay longer hours in school to be part of the extra moral classes.
Earlier, the team had purchased a fuel powered lawn mower, two wheel barrows, rakes and brooms in preparedness for the sanitation exercise planned jointly with the students to cut grasses on the school field. The aim of the exercise was to provide a platform for students to bond with the team members and create a platform for healthy interaction.
Another group of Bank PHB staff volunteers by the name “Planet Volunteers” painted the sidewalks of Sanusi Fafunwa black and white leaving the street sparkling clean.
Bank PHB staff at the Ojota branch of the bank took up the responsibility of cleaning gutters, sidewalks and Motor Park within Ojota and Oregun Bus stop to the amazement of passersby.
The Northern parts of the country was not left out as In Katsina, another group of Bank PHB staff in Kastina and Jigawa states took to the street in furtherance of the exercise.
The Bank PHB volunteer scheme is purely a staff initiative of the Bank funded by staff and designed to give Bank PHB staff a platform to make a difference in their immediate community.
