Beacon of ICT Lecture/Awards Series Gets April 20 Date

Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture is designed to explore efforts to put Nigeria on the global information and communications technologies map

Communication Week Media Limited, organizers of Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture/Awards Series said the 4th edition of the industry wide event aimed at charting the way forward and rewarding best practices and recognize outstanding contributions will Saturday, April 20, 2013 in Lagos.

This year, the Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture will examine efforts to adapt ICTs to local conditions and uses in Nigeria, and allowing Nigeria understand those innovations and adjust them to her own development needs.

According to Communication Week Media Limited also publishers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, the theme of this year’s celebration is “Technology Adaption; Looking It Straight In the Eye”

Ken Nwogbo, chief executive officer, Communication Week Media said that “this is because information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovations are delivering home-grown solutions in Africa, transforming businesses, and driving entrepreneurship and economic growth”

He said that the Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture is designed to explore efforts to put Nigeria on the global information and communications technologies map.

Nwogbo said that the highlight of the evening will be awards on some individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions and best practices.

Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture/Awards Series now in its fourth year is the biggest industry event complete with trappings of any five star red carpet events.

At the inaugural edition, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, then executive vice chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) delivered the lecture and gazing into the crystal ball, foretold a broadband revolution.

The following year, it was the turn of Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, Director-General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) who x-rayed the digitization of broadcasting.

Last year, Dr. Jean Luc Fort, CEO at OR System France and a specialist in Counterparty Risk wowed the crowd with expectations from mobile money.

There has never been a dull moment with the event which draws top politicians and government functionaries as well captains in the ICT industry as well financial institutions.
