Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN), painted red the famous city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, South West Nigeria, with galaxy of personalities, ranging from corporate and government players, at their annual conference and awards held at the Continental Hotel, recently.
The conference began with fun and conviviality, with the theme: “Repositioning Centenary Brand To Align With Modern Ideas”.
Mrs. Folake Ali-Mummuney, head, Marketing and Communication, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, who was represented by Mrs. Victoria Onwubiko, head, Brand Management spoke on “Retaining Youth in an Old Brand”.
She emphasized the essence of brand in the market place in relation to its dynamism of the global economy.
Mummuny likened the global economy to technological breakthroughs, both electronically and technologically to enhance brands, while is positioned to derive some benefits in terms of goodwill, reputation and brand name.
She added that brands differentiate products from others in the market place, while literary signifying that people can easily recognize products of their choice in the market place.
She noted that products grow, mature and also decline.
Mummuny reiterated that companies should continue to nurture their brand through the formulation of strategies to enable it sustain its value in the market place, adding that an illustration of coca cola as been able to infuse its brand into the minds of the Nigerian populace through consistent strategic, public relations and advertising campaigns.
She insisted that companies must protect their brands if they want to remain relevant in the market place. In addition, she cited example of Nike that has been able to build its brand globally.
She stressed that branding is more than a logo, also, branding helps to create niche for products by ensuring that they become a leader in the market place.
She said: “You must have a vision for your brand to go far”.
The guest speaker concluded by identifying four qualities for good brands which are: what is the customer experience like; quality of the product; identity of the product and communication.
Earlier, Mr. Yusuf Olaniyanu, commissioner for Information, Ogun State gave a goodwill message on behalf of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the State Governor.
The Governor welcomed BJAN members to the State, adding that the Administration has been keeping track of BJAN activities and promised to support in transforming and projecting the legacies of the country at large.
The event was heralded with an award ceremony to distinguishing brands both in the industry and in the market place.
Awards went to retinue of brands such as First Bank of Nigeria, UBA, Zenith Bank, Mainstream Bank, Ogun State Government and host of others.
