General Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has set up a committee to handle his campaign fund raising, with the committee saying it is adopting a strategy that will give all Nigerians the opportunity to participate in the fund raising.
At a press conference on Tuesday, organised by the committee to brief Nigerians about its fund-raising activities for the Buhari-Osinbajo Presidential campaign, director of the Campaign Fund-raising Committee and the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, said the committee would ensure that the fund-raising and management of the fund would be transparent and accountable.
Governor Fashola said that the campaign fund raising would be different from the traditional ones that Nigerians were accustomed to, emphasising that it was part of the change that the APC represented.
“We can hear, see and feel the desire of ordinary Nigerians for change and therefore this fund raising strategy has been designed to give every ordinary Nigerian an opportunity to participate in effecting that change.
“We also have seen the enthusiasm of young people to participate in this election, especially those who are voting for the first time.
“Regrettably we are aware that a number of them have either been denied the opportunity to register or where they have done so, they are experiencing difficulties in getting their Permanent Voter’s Cards,” he said.
The committee unveiled many platforms for persons who can vote and those who cannot vote could participate in the election by contributing to the Buhari-Osinbajo campaign.
He said the funds raised would be used in payment of agents on Election Day, getting the campaign message of change to Nigerians different media platforms, transport costs for those engaged in the campaign, printing of campaign material.
The payment or contribution platforms were announced, with the committee emphasising that no platform was too small.
The contributions would be made through designated banks, e-payments, SMS, ring tones and scratch cards.
They further urged Nigerians at home and abroad to contribute to change that could enable them actualise their dreams.
Other members of the committee are Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Governor Timipre Sylva, Olawale Edun, Abbas Bello, Ikechukwu Obiora, Farouq Adamu Aliyu, Sharon Ikeazor, Honourble Sabo Nakudu, Mr Sardauna Habeeb, Mr Badaru Abubakar and Bola Oyebode.
