Traders in the Ikeja computer village, under the umbrella of Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (Capdan), has called for improved understanding between members and their leaders.
Some of the traders who spoke to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek on the issue last week, said this has become necessary, so as to adequately address the issue of misunderstanding between the traders and their leaders.
According to the traders, constant misunderstanding between them and the market leaders will not only hinder the development of the market, but will also affect trading activities.
However, the traders disclosed that the issue of conducting a fresh election, which they claimed is long over due, is responsible for the present misunderstanding between them and the market leaders.
Also, they said that the impending election, has been responsible for the uninteresting attitude of members of the association towards the development of a new market site allocated to the traders by the Lagos state government.
Investigations by Nigeria CommunicationsWeek revealed that the impending election is also responsible for the clash of interest among members of the association, which resulted to a splinter group from Capdan, known as Techpark.
Further investigations revealed that while members of Capdan are preparing to relocate to Kontangwa, in Oke-Odo Local government area of Lagos state, members of Techpark have almost concluded arrangements to relocate to Ogun state.
However, sampled opinion of traders in the market revealed that election into various offices of the market association must be held for peace to reign among the traders and their leaders.
