Co-creation Hub (Cc-Hub), the nation’s software pre-incubation centre said that it spends in 5,000 monthly on purchase of diesel to power the centre, money which would have been otherwise ploughed back to grow the enterprise.
Cc-Hub like other Nigerian medium businesses bleeds profusely from huge expenditure on alternative power sources as public power supply is notoriously unreliable.
Bosun Tijani, founder and chief executive officer of the Centre, called on the government aid enterprises by speeding up necessary development plans capable of minimizing the burdens of SMEs.
“For instance, we spend over $5,000 every month on diesel to ensure there is constant power here. Assuming the government would come up with a policy that will mandate whichever Company is in-charge of supplying power to Yaba, to ensure there is electricity supply from 8am to 10pm daily, I can assure you that this centre and other ICT powered business around here will achieve a lot.
Tijani said: “We are not asking for government to give us money. The apps developers can benefit from government intervention funds, but as a Hub our concern is to see government put in place necessary infrastructure to help us achieve our targets; the targets are primarily to help the society in general.
He said that the centre established about 29 months ago is aiding apps developers achieve their aims.
“With the Lagos State Government and MainOne laying broadband fiber cables around Yaba, it is becoming a hotspot that requires constant power as well”.
On the newly commissioned mobile centre, Tijani added that over the past 29 months (2 years and 5months), CcHUB has worked with aspiring tech entrepreneurs who are finding interesting ways to address social issues in Nigeria in areas such as governance, education, trade, water, extractives and entertainment.
“It has become clear that once these tools are created, the next critical step towards scalability is to connect with end users (especially in an environment where the vast majority is still not ‘technology savvy’).
“We created the Mobile Experience Lab from the necessity to bridge the gap between users and digital service providers in Nigeria. The aim of MX Lab is to enhance the quality of local digital solutions; improve customer satisfaction; and accelerate smart application of technology in solving problems in Nigeria,” he said.
The Cc-Hub boss also explained that they plan to achieve: “Research: the lab will generate, process and disseminate extensive knowledge and data to aid better understanding of the end-users by our community members
“Usability Testing: the lab will provide pre-launch usability testing with real users to help developers avoid poor user experience which can inherently ruin a product
“Evangelism: the lab will commit considerable resources to consistent messaging on the place of usability and user experience in technology development. We will sensitise and enlighten the community on the subject matter and its place in technology product development.
The Cc-Hub acts as a cushy nest designed to accelerate the successful development of social tech ventures through an array of business support resources and services, developed and orchestrated by the hub management and offered both in the space and through our network of partners.
In addition, the hub leads co-creation initiatives aimed at creating novel technologically driven solutions to the myriad social challenges facing the average.
