Dr.Peter Olayiwola, chairman Certification Board of Computer Forensics Institutes Nigeria (CFIN) has assured that the organization will in the next few years from now develop battalions of computer forensics experts who will be ready to go to war to stop the menace of computer and internet fraud in Nigeria and also save Nigeria millions of naira it spends every year training people abroad.
Olayiwola made this disclosure recently during the launching of online training programme of the institute at its National Secretariat, Lagos. He described the development as the beginning of an era in the history of Nigeria saying that the nation will be the greatest beneficiary of the programme. He said that through the singular act, the door is open for all Nigerians including those in Diaspora to take advantage of what digital and forensics has to offer in terms of knowledge , skills , expertise, experience, employment and consulting opportunities, wealth creation and digital computer security.
In his keynote address, Olayiwola emphasized that Computer Forensics Institute Nigeria, a professional organization approved by both the Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Justice is about to develop battalions of digital and computer forensics experts who will be ever ready to contend with the challenges of digital and computer crime of different dimensions.
Olayiwola said that since its organization started operations last year that it has opened offices in Lagos, Abuja and Kaduna even as he said that arrangements are on to appoint state coordinators for each of the states and the Federal Capital Territory. So far it has established presence in each of the geographical zones of the country.
The chairman said the result of the boot camp of CFIN held in Lagos in March this year informed the decision of the organization to conduct online training based on the recommendation of participants at the residential boot camp training who agitated that the organization avail them the opportunity of online training programme as some of them were constrained by time to attend residential boot camp. CFIN, according to him annually conducts research and development into new and emerging technologies and methods in the science of computer forensics. The certification offered by CFIN is the Chartered Computer Forensics Examiner which is the result of CFIN’s desire to increase the level of professionalism and advancement in the field and science of computer forensics.
The Certification Board maintains a fair, uncompromised process for certifying the competency of computer forensics examiners and sets high forensics and ethical standards for digital and computer forensics examiners. CFIN administers the Chartered Computer Forensics Examiner certification to both law enforcement and non-law enforcement digital and computer forensics examiners who must not at first be computer science graduates.
Olayiwola said the online training is not only convenient as it allows one to complete all courses via the internet , the programme is flexible allowing students to attend an online class at any time and from anywhere. Instructors will also help prospective examiners with assignment questions providing them with additional educational resources, among other benefits.
