CNN African Voices Spotlights Rise of Professional Photography

Cable News Network (CNN) half hour magazine program, African Voices Changemakers, is set to showcase the exciting progress of photography across the continent in its next episode.

The program, which is sponsored by leading telecommunications service provider, Globacom, will feature two African professional photographers- Ghanaian Carlos Idun-Tawiah and Brian Otieno, a photojournalist from Kenya.

Through exciting show and tell interviews, viewers will get to experience the highlights of their work, learn of the challenges they have faced and the opportunities that exist for upcoming African professional photographers.

Carlos Idun-Tawiah, was one of five next-generation designers and photographers contracted Mercedes-Benz earlier in the year to showcase Ghana’s emerging talent and tradition. He is a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Accra, Ghana, and reputed to be one of the best contemporary photographers and filmmakers in Ghana.

Kenyan born Otieno, also known as Brian Jaybee, is on the other hand a freelance photojournalist and correspondent with The Star, one of the well-respected news magazines in Kenya. He is well known for his advocacy on important social issues including creating awareness around female genital mutilation, earning him the popular description as ‘’a reporter with an eye for the unique.’’

This exciting episode of African Voices Change Makers will air on DSTV Channel 401 at 9.30 a.m. this Saturday, and will be repeated on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. and Monday at 5.30 a.m.
