Code of Conduct Bureau Lauds Bureau of Public Enterprises

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has commended the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) for ensuring   that its staff declare their assets in line with the requirement of the CCB.
At an enlightenment forum organized for management staff of BPE in Abuja on Tuesday, Mr. Ikpeme Kenneth, acting head (Education &Advisory Services) of CCB, noted that staff of the Bureau “are among the  most consistent  in the country to declare their assets as at when  due”.
He said by the exemplary attitude of staff of the Bureau, it confirms that as a reform and privatizing agency, “BPE wants to lead by example and set the pace for others to follow”.
Kenneth acknowledged the challenging task of the Bureau in the reform programme of government and advised that BPE should not be deterred by wrong perceptions that were mostly uninformed.
The officer urged other organizations in the country to emulate BPE in declaring their assets as demanded by law.
In her remarks, acting director- general of BPE represented by Mr. Ben Dikki, director, Information & Communication commended CCB for initiating the enlightenment programme for the staff.
Dikki said CCB like the BPE also, has a difficult mandate which requires a lot of sacrifice to implement.
He advised that CCB should target ensuring selfless behavior of public servants on areas that would impact maximally on the country, like in the award and execution of contracts.
Participants were taught the code of conduct for public officers and guided on how to complete   the assets declaration forms.
The mandate of CCB is to establish a high standard of morality in the conduct of government business and to ensure the actions and behaviors of public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.
Sanctions in breach of the law include: vacation of office, disqualification from membership of a legislative house, disqualification from holding public office for a period of ten years and forfeiture to the state of any property acquired in the abuse or corruption in office.
