International Data Corporation (IDC), an American market research, analysis and advisory firm specializing in information technology, telecommunications and consumer technology, has warned of the increasing complexities in information technology related fields in Nigeria.
According to the IT research engine, issues related with security scoring 39% leads among others that pose serious challenge heads of IT in business segments like telecoms, banking and oil and gas.
Jyoti Lalchandani, group vice president and regional managing director, Middle East, Turkey and Africa, IDC, made the remarks during a public presentation of Oracle’s database servers, adding that heads of IT in various companies in the country are also faced with issues that revolve around compliance with standards, especially government policies. This also represents 39% of the complexities.
Other difficulty areas the IDC report identified include return on investment (35%) and innovative use of technology (35%) while the biggest challenge comes from lack of skills, representing (57%).
The latter causes 49% of project delays and inhibitions in adopting new technologies is 54%.
Lalchandani, however, summarised the difficulties as overwhelming on companies’ efficiencies, consolidation of investments and standard optimization.
Meanwhile, IDC identified cloud computing as new priority leading a fast shifting world and data center technologies and would provide soft landing to companies in distress over business infrastructure needs.
