Copyright Commission Raids Pirates in Sapele

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in an anti-broadcast piracy operation tagged “Operation Tiger Claw” has raided areas suspected to be notorious in transmission of illegal broadcast signals and other forms of broadcast piracy in Sapele.

Suspected areas raided are: No 11 Nebragho Street off Mcpherson Road Sapele, Commercial Avenue Sapele 6 Omiemedity by Orhiaki Road, Mission Road Sapele, Oghenekerwe close Road Sapele and Orhiaki Road Sapele.

The enforcement raid was carried out by a coordinated team of Copyright Inspectors backed up by armed Policemen.

According to Mr. Augustine Amodu, director of Enforcement, NCC, who disclosed this in a report released at the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja, confiscated items seized are worth N3.5m while suspected pirates are at large. The items seized includes; Decorders, Smart Cards, Splitters, Remote controls, extension wires and destroyed cables.

He further stated that continuous surveillance and investigation are on-going to bring all the suspects at large to book while compilation of case files from raided shops is in progress.

Mr. Amodu also assured that the Commission will not rest on its oars until the activities of broadcast pirates that have robbed legitimate business owners of their economic benefits is stamped out of the state.
