The programme has now been adopted by the Federal Government and has produced thousands of competent and internationally certified IT Professionals from undergraduates of Covenant university, thereby making the gradates of the university to become toast of employers in the Nigeria highly competitive labour market.
Covenant University has, therefore, partly on account of the excellent performance of its graduates in IT-related activities been consistently recognized as the leading IT-Driven University in Africa for the past half a decade.
According to Covenant University, “the award is in recognition of New Horizons’ partnership with the University in raising graduates with ICT-savvy skills and certifications for the global market as well as connection to the core values and ethos of Covenant University.”
Akano while receiving the award pledged not to relent in bringing innovative products and solutions that will make Nigeria and Africa become the first outsourcing destination for IT-Professionals in the world in the next ten years.
He emphasized the need for Nigeria and Africa to exploit the opportunity of ‘’Virtual Alien’’, i.e. producing competent local skilful Labour Force in ICT that will work for companies abroad while staying in Nigeria and earn hard foreign currencies through the use of modern technology.
Akano also brought to the notice of the guests that one big challenge facing Nigeria today which has never been mentioned by the Government is what he calls ‘Cyber Apartheid’ that is a situation where Nigerians are not allowed to participate in certain on -line transactions because of the sin of the few bad eggs in the country that is now visited on the whole nation by the International Community.
