CRD Holds Business Section for Courier Coys

The Courier Regulatory Department is set to hold its first mandatory capacity building programme for the year, 2012, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has learnt. The workshop titled ‘Courier Business and Capital Market Operations’ is aimed at empowering courier business executives with the relevant skills necessary for transactions with the Capital Market. Following the astronomical growth in demand for courier services and increasing number of operators that posed imminent dangers the Courier Regulatory Department was set up in 2002 as a Government response to private sector demand for industry regulation. The body is committed to implement the provisions of the Courier Regulatory Guidelines as derived from the Nigerian Postal Service Act 41 of 1992, especially in handling matters relating to issuing and renewal of operating licence; monitoring and enforcement of standards; creating an enabling and sustainable environment for courier service business in Nigeria by liaising with various stakeholders in the industry and capacity building in the sector. In a statement, endorsed by Kikelomo Josephine, CRD hopes to cease the medium provide interface between courier operators and registrars. “It will also provide an avenue for operators to acquaint themselves with emerging opportunities in the industry,” the statement read in part. The programme which comes up on 17th & 18th April, 2012 at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos is expected to have the following as resource persons, Dr. David Ogogo the chief executive officer, Institute of Capital Market Registrars; Mr. Bayo Olugbemi the managing director, 1st Registrars; Mr. Mike Umo, the general manager, Bulkpost, NIPOST and Mr. Toyin Olufade the president, ANCO & MD, Swift Courier. .
