Crown Interactive Limited, a service aggregation company in partnership with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Eko 2012, is streaming live actions from the national sporting event, taking place in Lagos.

The event is being streamed on Vodstreet web portal, a multi-screen Internet Television platform, which helps to widen consumer reach and increase access to a worldwide audience has never happened in the history of the NSF.

By this, Nigerians can get to watch the games on the go via their phones and Ipads and Wumi Oghoetuoma, chief executive officer of Crown Interactive, said Vodstreet is Crown Interactives’ solution to the gap in the “New Media” space in Africa.

“We have built a media and content distribution framework that telcos, content providers and service providers can use. It is a content framework that provides content like movies, music, TV shows and live events and even radio station directly to this framework that people can view on the web or via the mobile phone. Our powerful platform allows us to take local content global and global content local.”

“We streamed the opening ceremony of Eko 2012 live, and viewers from around the globe were actually watching it, even after the event. We do the replay online and on mobile so people could watch it and we will be doing this all through the Eko 2012 event.”

He said the next big thing for telcos is data and data consumption and content providers and media companies that want to monetize their contents can bring their music, their movies on this platform and that telcos and ISPs can actually promote the service as people view the contents, making it a win-win situation for all parties involved.

“Looking at the movie industry today, how many cinemas do we have in the country? So if any movie is produced, what is ideal is that the producer would like to monetize it by viewing it at the cinema for a while, before it then goes into DVDs.

Once it goes into DVDs, there is a risk of piracy, therefore what we are doing is that we are creating a framework where the movies can be available on mobile phones, on tablets and on the web so that they are not just monetizing from the local cinema in Lagos and Abuja, but they are monetizing from around the world.

Using Vodstreet, subscribers can remotely access TV Channels via the web portal, mobile devices, tablets, Roku, Google TV, Set Top Boxes and Internet TV all around the world, thus enhancing the reach of terrestrial broadcast media.
