The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified efforts to address the incessant fake customs auction adverts on various social media platforms particularly on Facebook.

To this effect, the Service has launched its official Facebook page and Twitter handle.

Dikko Inde Abdullahi, customs comptroller-general, said at the launch in Abuja that the new social media platforms will complement existing efforts in the traditional media to combat the scourge of online scammers currently duping innocent and unsuspecting citizens.

He said the page, www.facebook.com/customsng on Facebook and @CustomsNG Twitter handle are the only true and authentic social media channels of the NCS which will also include a Customs YouTube channel, online educational videos, and blog press.

“This statement therefore serves as disclaimer to every other Facebook/Twitter profiles that purport to represent the Service. Online subscribers are requested to note some of the features that will distinguish our page from others include the NCS logo, Service colours, and exclusive videos. The Customs Facebook/Twitter handle are also linked to the Customs official website www.customs.gov.ng on the .gov.ng domain of the Federal Government of Nigeria,”

“The Management of Nigeria Customs Service recognizes the importance of the social media platforms, and their influence on international trade. Therefore, the Service is poised to meet its stakeholders on popular platforms to share information that will facilitate trade and boost the economy,” Abdulahi said.

He said stakeholders and members of the general public can now like the official page and equally follow via Twitter to get access to relevant and authoritative information on policy statements, Customs news, tariffs, events, scam alerts, and videos among others.

While restating the Service resolve to engage stakeholders for improved trade facilitation and national security, the Customs boss said the Service has designated, trained, and equipped social media desk officers from the public relations department as schedule officers to provide round the clock service to stakeholders to ensure continuity.
