The CWG Academy in partnership with Oracle, has organized the first Oracle Summer boot camp in the entire Sub-Sahara African region.

The boot camp aimed at equipping participants from tertiary institutions in the country with requisite IT skills to proffer solutions to challenges in the industry.

The CWG-Oracle boot camp gave concise, intensive and real-time training to participants in the fields of Java Fundamentals, Java Programming & Database Administration.

It featured a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on exercises and case study sessions that will afford the participants a competitive advantage in the IT industry. 22 participants from major of Nigerian tertiary institutions successfully completed the 3 weeks-long programme free of charge.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr. Austin Okere, founder and CEO, CWG Plc observed that the training was conceived in-line with the company’s CSR policy which is centered on giving back to the society through quality education.

According to Mr. Okere, “the CWG-Oracle boot camp was designed to further bridge the IT workforce gap in the Nigerian industry and indeed the entire Sub-Sahara region. We believe that we can empower our vibrant youthful population to compete more favourably in the world of the future, when we train them to become the best IT professionals. The program underpins CWG and Oracle’s commitment to this objective.”

He charged the students to live out the lessons they have learnt and ensure that they prove themselves worthy ambassadors of CWG and Oracle everywhere they go. “Let me leave you with three important life lessons today. First, let your future be brighter than your past. Second, let your contribution be your focus and not applause. And third, let your gratitude be more than your requests. I wish you all the best”, he concluded.

On his part, Mr. Yunuz, Vice-President, Oracle Corporation, emphasized the importance of the training to the participants.

He told the participants that attending the training is the best choice they had made because it will develop their minds, noting that an educated mind and a functional gadget are the basic tools for the 21st century professional. Stressing the relevance of the training,

Mr. Yunuz said, “Most of the world most successful entrepreneurs came from a software background. So, learning how to make your ideas come to life using software will afford you access to a vista of employment opportunities, give you the option to start your own enterprise and give your unlimited sources of income.”

Also, Mrs. Olla, Oracle’s Director for Skills Development in Africa, noted that the boot camp is an outgrowth of a long standing relationship between CWG and Oracle in the area of training.

She explained that Oracle aims at developing her prospect in Africa through manpower development relying on collaboration with local partners.

She advised the participants to extend the favours shown to them by CWG and Oracle by transferring the knowledge acquired to other people.

At the end of the ceremony, the 22 successful candidates were given certificates of participations while the two best graduates were given special prizes.

The CWG Academy established over 5 years ago has produced over 800 ICT professionals that have in-turn impacted the industry significantly as professionals and entrepreneurs. It has also served as a training hub for professionals and technical support teams over time.
