CWG, Dell Strengthen Partnership for African Countries

Original Equipment Manufacturer in the Computer space, Dell and its first line partner Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) have re-iterated their commitment to the business through investing hugely in Nigeria and the region in the coming year. During a recent visit to CWG’s head office, Dell through its representative Driss Elougmani, who explained that the Dell was going to bring in its competence and capabilities in services and solutions from the Middle East and Saudi Arabia, into the African region.
According to him, ‘Dell implemented a strategy for offering pro-consult/consulting services, which has leveraged the Global infrastructure services of Dell in that region’. With Dell’s plan to focus on three African countries, Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa in the coming year, Dolph Westerbos, Dell’s Vice President for Solutions & Services EMEA, sought from CWG as a prime partner in Nigeria and the West African region on areas in which Dell could assist in growing the business.
Dayo Abegunde, AGM Computer Warehouse Limited Systems, member of CWG, suggested that ‘Dell and CWG jointly hold events, seminars as well as workshops focused on specific industries and customers in order to build Dell’s mindshare in the enterprise’. He stated that the successes recorded in the past with such initiatives could be directed to other industries in other to maximize the opportunities that would emerge in the coming year. Dayo explained that it would be of great interest for Dell to strengthen its partnership with CWG in countries like Ghana and other African countries where CWG has its presence and is planning on establishing more presence within the continent.
It was then agreed that CWG will be appointed Dell solutions partner in Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and other east African countries. As regards the much talked about clouding computing in the ICT world today, Philip Obioha, CWG’s chief operating officer wanted to know what Dell was doing in that line. Westerbos of Dell explained that Dell has got extensive experience in clouding computing with the popular search engine Google, being one of its clients. Dell plans to launch cloud edge servers to optimize cloud computing in the first quarter of 2010.
