Telnet Group and Computer Warehouse Group (CWG), two major business enablers in Nigeria are neck and neck in the race for the deployment of the first cash and cheque deposit Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the country.

Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that the cash and cheque ATM is a revolutionary automated teller technology which allows customers to not only withdraw cash, but also to deposit cash directly and see their money being counted and registered on-line in their account.

It is a major integrity booster, one that Telnet and CWG are battling to ink their names in history as pioneers. Both companies deploy Wincor Nixdorf ATMs in the country.

Electronic Deposit Machine (EDM) is a technology breakthrough that helps banks to increase their customer base, as well as provide them with easy and convenient automated banking processes.

Telnet said that plans have reached advanced stage for the launch of its first deposit ATMs in Nigeria while CWG said that it is launching new systems that automate cheque and cash deposits, for use in retail bank branches.

Information posted on NCR’s (one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Automated Teller Machines) website has it that two Nigerian banks – UBA and Intercontinental Bank have ordered for Deposit ATMs from its stables.

Bukola Aluko, general manager, CWL systems hardware solutions subsidiary of Computer Warehouse Group noted that Computer Warehouse has the manpower to implement and support the solution in Nigeria and West Africa and is bringing this to add value to our financial sector in a bid to make Nigeria realise her stated goals of being one of the top 20 economies in the world by the year 2020.
