Datawind, a leading provider of wireless web access products and services has introduced the Pocketsurfer2 into the Nigerian market after a successful launch in the U.K.
The PocketSurfer2 is an ultra-thin portable device that easily fits into a pocket or bag and delivers the real web. Weighing in at just 6.1OZ, it allows you to browse the web in its original layout on a 640 x 240 full colour widescreen display using a mouse cursor and a full backlit QWERTY thumb keyboard.
The device has its own in-built GPRS antenna and SIM card which means it can connect itself straight to the mobile network to get users online immediately.
Running on the MTN and Glo platforms, the promoters of the product have claimed that it offers the best internet experience compared to any mobile internet device and will be very useful to various Nigerians including managers, Real Estate agents, traveling sales executives, field-service personnel, Stockbrokers, IT professionals and the retired.
The PocketSurfer2 spots a mouse pointer, mini-USB charging port, transreflective screen, backlit keyboard, quad-band GPRS 850/900/1800/1900Mhz, rechargeable lithium polymer battery, internal high performance antenna, USB cable to connect to PC and use PocketSurfer2 as a modem.
Derek Kopke, sales vice president, Datawind, in his presentation said "PocketSurfer2 gives you the web just as it would display on your computer, including the original format, layout and content. Independent tests have proven that we can access more types of web formats than other devices. Java scripts & apps, SSL sites, flash, active-x, large attached files are all easy work for the PocketSurfer2."
Available at N55,000 at designated points across Nigeria, Kopke claims that it is the least expensive device accessing the real web in Nigeria (hardware and data combined) and would give users value for money as they enjoy its great functionality.
He informed that Nigeria would be the first African country in which the product would be launched and will also be the first place where it would be used as a modem to connect users’ PCs to the Internet.
