Delta State Teachers Get Zinox Empowerment
Zinox Computers has donated computers to teachers in Delta State to boost their productivity.
In her speech, Mrs. E. Uvo Gardener, commissioner of Education, told the teachers that they now have the opportunity to enhance their productivity by improving the quality of students that they send forth into the society. She recalled that the state government has painstakingly ensured that all their entitlements have been paid and as such, the government on her part expects quality service delivery as a form of appreciation.
The commissioner said it has become very important for the teachers to raise their standards because of the hydra headed societal challenges that undermine Nigeria’s development while reminding the teachers that their products have direct impact on the economy, politics, religion, and all other aspects of our national life.
Comrade Ojobu, Delta State chapter Chairman of NUT praised the efforts of the administration in uplifting the welfare of teachers in the state. He called for immediate action on the dilapidated infrastructure in the public schools. The union leader called on teachers to close ranks to ensure they get what is due to them while urging them to strive to attain professionalism by adopting computer skills which would in turn be passed on to the students who are waiting to become leaders in the future. The NUT leader extended the appreciation of all the teachers in the state to Leo Stan Ekeh, chairman, Zinox Group, and Zinox as a corporate institution for his faith in teachers and the teaching profession.
Speaking on the executive governor’s behalf, Ifeanyi Okowa, secretary to the State Government, expressed the governor’s gratitude to the teachers for giving his administration the necessary cooperation to make good the promises that were made during the election campaigns. He said the government is doing everything possible to ensure that Delta State becomes the leading educational state in the country. To this end, he stated that their welfare would receive constant review while infrastructure in schools across the state shall be renovated and upgraded to meet the changing times.
According to him, the government desires to see intellectually sound graduates from schools in Delta state, and he assured the NUT of the government’s support whenever they come up with laudable and innovative projects that are aimed at developing the quality of education in the state. He lauded the leadership of the NUT under Comrade Ojobu for taking the bold step to partner with the biggest technology company in Nigeria in order to ensure every teacher in Delta State not just owns computers, but apply it to their work. He commended Ekeh for including Delta State among the beneficiaries of his nationwide crusade for IT penetration.
On his part, Ekeh, paid tribute to the vision of the state NUT leadership for making it possible for teachers in the state to become proud owners and users of Zinox Computers. According to him, "it is good to know that teachers in Delta State are having it so good under their current leadership."
He said the teachers would be migrating from an analogue platform to a more sophisticated level even as he urged them to use the computers given to them to address the insufficiency of instructional materials in schools. In his words "there is hardly any instructional material that cannot be generated or improvised from the computer and I expect that these computers would totally revolutionalize teaching and learning in Delta State."
To facilitate quick deployment, Ekeh promised to provide computer appreciation training for the teachers in addition to setting up an office in Asaba to provide quick time customer service as well as rendering technical support services when the need arises.
